The Importance of Daily Bible Reading

SUMMARY

This world, this life, is full of lies. Thankfully, we always know where to seek the Truth.

The Importance of Daily Bible Reading:

We get them on television; we get them on the Internet. We get them on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. On all of our social media, there’s just lie after lie after lie. Especially without a solid foundation in the Word of God, it can become increasingly more difficult to determine what the Truth is.

In fact, we’re so inundated with lies in our lives these days, that unless we’re very intentional about getting inside the Word of God on a regular basis and applying that to our lives, those lies are going to seep into us and start affecting what we believe and eventually how we behave.

A lie that stays in your life long enough becomes a belief. And once lies become belief systems, they’re going to dictate your actions.

Ever heard the expression, if you repeat something long enough, you’ll start to believe it? Any lie that we’re fed repeatedly about how we should look, act, speak or behave will engrain itself in us. We then act on these lies as if they have power over us, as if we honestly believe in them.

I encourage you NOT to allow lies to dictate your actions; allow the Word of God to build your belief system and dictate your Godly actions. Then, you’ll be able to have the most impact for God in this world.

By seeking guidance inside the Word of God rather than in outside media, the Truth itself will become a part of your belief system and affect your actions for the better.

Until we talk again, live passionately, give generously, and impact the world for God.

Hey, this is Todd Phillips, your online pastor and personal life coach. I’m talking today about the importance of the Bible. That it’s a hugely important book whether we know God or don’t.

You know, my wife reminded me of this just the other day. A couple years back, I was traveling down to Florida, actually, if I remember it right. I was going down to Florida to speak at a Christian retreat, a church retreat, and I went to this hotel—and I’m wondering if this happened to you before!—I go to this hotel; I check in. I’m about to take a shower, so I get ready; I get all my stuff out of my luggage, I go into the shower to take a shower to get ready for that night’s activities, to speak that night.

And I kid you not, this happens to me more often than not, I’m in the shower, and I look over to the wall in the shower, and like not at eye level, but I don’t know, eight or ten inches above on the wall is a black hair. It’s right there. It’s clearly not mine. My hair is not black. So the cleaner didn’t come in and take care of business. Right? So there’s that hair.

Now, if you’ve ever been in that situation before, I want you to think about what you did when that happened. Do you touch the hair? Do you take your hand up there and push it down into the drain? Not for a second. That would be gross! So, what you do is, you cup your hands, you put it under the shower water, and then cup the water and toss it up on the wall. And what happens? The little black hair goes—bloop—about one inch. So, you have to keep cupping your hand and throw on the water, and cup your hand again and toss some water up until eventually, it just kind of goes down the wall, down into the tub, and down into the drain.

At this point you’re probably asking me, Todd, what does that have to do with the importance of the Bible? Well, here’s the deal. This world, this life, is full of lies. We get them on television; we get them on the Internet. We get them on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. On all of our social media, there’s just lies after lies after lies out there and it’s hard to determine what the truth is.

What’s amazing about this is that we’re so inundated with lies in our lives these days, that unless we’re very intentional about getting inside the Word of God on a regular basis and applying that to our life, those lies are going to seep into us and start affecting what we believe. Then, once they become belief systems, they’re going to dictate our actions. Are you with me?

A lie that stays in our life long enough becomes a belief. And as soon as it becomes a belief, when it moves from head to heart, it begins to dictate our actions.

So, when a lie comes up, just like that hair on the wall, what we need to do is we need to cup our hands; we need to get into the Word of God, and apply that Word of God to the lie that we want out of our lives. It can’t just happen one time. It’s not just one Sunday school class, or one church service, or one passage of the scripture. A lot of time these lies are so engrained into the culture that we’ve got to constantly apply the Word of God to those lies in our life until they slowly go down the wall, down the tub, into the drain, and out of our lives!

The Word of God can do that. The Word of God, the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, the entirety of the council of the Word of God allows us to apply truth to the lies of our lives, so that the truth—the Truth!—can stay in our life long enough that is can develop a belief system in our life around that truth and that’s that can dictate our actions.

I want to encourage you today if you’re dealing with uncertainty about things that you hear, just be sure to apply the Word of God. Allow the Word of God and the truth of the Word of God to build your belief system and dictate your Godly actions. Then you’ll be able to have the most impact for God in this world.

Until we talk again, live passionately, give generously, and impact the world for God.
